Bartholomeus Eustachii
“Bartholomeus Eustachii. Who was He?”
He said exactly as Don Abbondio (N.B.) did with Carneades at the beginning [incipit] of the 8. [VIII, see Roman Numeric System] of the Novel of Alessandro Manzoni, The Betrothed. Set in Lombardy, Northern Italy between 1628 and 1630, during the oppressive years of direct Spanish rule, it is a veiled attack on the Austrian Empire, which controlled the region at the time the novel was written. The definitive version was published in 1842.
Bartholomeus Amicus (1562–1649), Jesuit priest; Bartholomeus Anglicus (1203–1272), scholastic scholar of Paris, member of the Franciscan order; Bartholomeus Assteyn (1607–1669/1677), Dutch painter; Bartholomeus Barbiers (1743–1808), Dutch painter; Bartholomeus Breenbergh (1598–1657) Dutch Golden Age painter; Bartholomeus de Glanvilla (? - c. 1360), Franciscan monk; Bartholomeus Eustachii (1500/1514 – 1574),one of the founders of the human anatomy;Bartholomeus Spranger (1546–1611), Flemish Northern Mannerist painter, draughtsman, and etcher; Bartholomeus van der Helst (1613–1670), Dutch portrait painter.

Nota Bene [from now on N.B.] : a coward, hypocritical, Catholic, prelate Pharisee. He became the archetype of this kind of people.
